While we recently told you about the upcoming Battlestar Galactica movie from Universal, based on the original cheesy Battlestar Galactica TV show from the 70s, it appears there’s another movie in the works from the Sci Fi Channel. SFX reports that the new movie, The Plan, will be a Cylon-centric TV movie that goes back to the time the Cylons decided that wiping out humanity would be a good idea.
“It’s a story that will explore the beginnings of the conflict between the Cylons and the ragtag fleet,” said co-executive producer Mark Verheiden. “It’s not unlike what we did with Razor in that we go back and explore sort of an unseen moment from the history of Battlestar, that we’ve seen from one point of view.”
“I think the impetus for it was to go back and look at it from the Cylon point of view, and see how they were diving into the story, what prompted them to do what they did, and what are their conflicting emotions. Because they are not emotionless robots. They are very feeling and compassionate.”
IGN reports that the story will focus on familiar Battlestar characters, including the Cylon Number One (Dean Stockwell), Resistance Leader Sam T. Anders (Michael Trucco) and Chief Galen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas). The Cylons "plan" was to wipe out the human race, but they didn't expect survivors. After the destruction, two Cylon agents struggle in working out how to deal with the human ships that got away, and the resistance fighters left behind.
So while the fourth and final season is over, we still have the prequel series Caprica to watch in 2010 (the pilot is now available on DVD), a movie from Universal, and a new TV movie from the Sci Fi Channel too. There’s enough Battlestar on the way to appease any hardcore fan.
The Battlestar Galactica TV movie The Plan was originally supposed to be broadcast directly after the Battlestar season 4 finale, but will now be broadcast sometime in November 2009. You can watch an ad for the movie below.
