Universal Home Entertainment has pointed us to some excellent new material from the upcoming Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica, including a new Caprica website to promote the pilot’s 21 April DVD and digital download release, an extended trailer from the series, and an extended clip from the pilot. There’s also a widget you can embed in your web pages.
Watch the new Caprica trailer and the extended pilot clip below. You’ll also find links to two Caprica websites and the cover art.
As we reported previously, Caprica will premiere on DVD and as a Digital Download before the series' broadcast on SyFy (previously called the Sc Fi Channel) in 2010. The DVD release will be a limited edition, uncut and unrated version, with special features. You can pre-order the Caprica pilot on Amazon here. Here’s the official synopsis from the Caprica website:
“An astonishing breakthrough is taking shape on the planet Caprica. The rapidly evolving spheres of human and mechanical engineering have collided, along with the fates of two families. Joined by tragedy in an explosive instant of terror, two rival clans led by powerful patriarchs, Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) and Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) duel in an era of questionable ethics, corporate machinations and unbridled personal ambition as the final war for humanity looms.”

I must admit I was a bit sceptical that they could follow Battlestar Galactica with a show with as much depth and impact, and although I’m still not 100% convinced, this material is more impressive than what has been released previously and gives me reason to believe they're on the right track. After watching these new trailers, Eric Stolz seems like an ideal choice for the lead role of Cylon scientist Daniel Grayston. Now that Battlestar Galactica has ended, it’s good to have something set in the same universe to look forward too.
