Now that the SciFi Channel has picked up the Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica, authorising 20 hours for season one, we get our first taste of footage from the new show.
The Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica is set 50 years before the events in Battlestar Galactica, telling the story of the creation of the Cylons and the lead up to the first Cylon war. In a world not unlike our own, two competing families, the Greystones and the Adamas, are first to achieve startling breakthroughs in robotics, marrying artificial intelligence with mechanical bodies to create living robots. In the following clip Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) gets a tour and explanation of what happens in the Cyber Clubs from one of his daughter's friends.
The combination of Eric Stoltz in the leading role and the team behind Battlestar Galactica at the helm make this a promising production. I had been wondering where Eric Stoltz had got to. The last time I saw him was in the movie Killing Zoe, and that was way back in 1994.
The beginning of the end of Battlestar Galactica's last season airs on 16 January (Season 4), so it's good to know we'll have something to look forward to once the last 10 episodes have come and gone. Speaking of Battlestar Galactica, you can watch a new extended trailer for the final ten episodes here (Season 4.5). If the previous Season 4 episodes are anything to go by, this will be unmissable television.
The Sci Fi Channel starts filming Caprica in Vancouver in the US summer this year. However, Caprica won't be released until 2010.
