Third Daniel Craig James Bond film uncertain

danielCBad news if you're a James Bond fan. The third James Bond film to star Daniel Craig (number 23 in the franchise) is on hold because of finance concerns at MGM. MI6 (the website, not the British Intelligence organisation) and FirstShowing quote producer Michael G. Wilson, who has revealed that Bond 23 has an uncertain future:

"Well, our timeline's a little up in the air what with the situation at MGM, so we have to be flexible. We just don't know enough about the situation to comment, but we know it's uncertain."

Screenwriter Peter Morgan said he'd finished the script and everything was ready, it just needed to be green lit to make a late 2011 release. However, Wilson reveals that:

"Well… we've hired the writers and we've been working with them but it's just too early to say anything," he said. "You know, often at this stage, I find myself saying, 'Oh, we're gonna do this and that', then six months from now you'll say, 'That isn't in the film at all - you told me it was…' I think we're at the stage where a lot of ideas are floating around that sound very good, but whether they make the final cut, who knows?"

The last 2 Bond films starring Daniel Craig were Casino Royale and the Quantum of Solace, with Quantum of Solace following on directly from the previous film. Considering the popularity of Daniel Craig as Bond and the success of both films, it's amazing that such a successful franchise could be held up this way. Whatever the result, it looks like we won't be seeing a new Bond film until 2013 (2012 if we're lucky).
