As we reported earlier, director Ridley Scott is on board to direct a new Alien movie, a prequel to his 1979 science fiction classic starring Sigourney Weaver. The director recently spoke to Empire Magazine and revealed a tiny bit more about what he has in mind. He was in the UK for the London Film Festival.
“It’s a brand new box of tricks,” said Scott. “We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but [for example] if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior.”
Empire suggests this means Ridley has decided to give the new movie a "more human focus" rather than just an out and out blood bath featuring the nasty, acid spitting, sharp fanged extraterrestrial beasties we've all come to know and love.
When they asked him why he is returning to the alien universe one more time he said:
“I never thought I’d look forward to a sequel. But a prequel is kind of interesting. I’m looking forward to doing that.”
Still, when is he going to find time? There are so many films he's slated to make: Brave new World, The Forever War, and most strangely of all, a Monopoly movie based on the popular board game.
