Will Ferrell dances with dinosaurs

lostI've always been fond of Will Ferrell’s movies, from Old School, the classic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Blades of Glory, to the underrated (and at times disturbing) Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. So when faced with news of a new Will Ferrell movie that merges two of my favourite genres, science fiction and comedy, the upcoming Land of The Lost remake, I'm immediately interested. A sneak peak in a recently released trailer (below) does not disappoint.

As we reported earlier, Will Ferrell plays a disgraced palaeontologist in the remake of the 70's Television show of the same name, with an assistant (Anna Friel) and a macho tour guide (comedian Danny McBride). Catapulted into an alternate universe full of dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from other worlds, he must survive without weapons, with few skills, and questionable intelligence. Add Sleestaks, a primate called Chaka, state of the art special effects, and the comic mayhem of Will Ferrell and the results are likely to be intriguing.

Of course, I understand that Will Ferrell’s comedy is not to everyone's taste. Reactions from friends and family are polarised, from "it's juvenile crap" to “he’s brilliant". However, if you do find his work funny (and judging by the box office appeal of Ferrell’s movies there are at least a few of you out there), take a look.

Land of the Lost is due in cinemas 17 July 2009.
