The evidence is mounting, when Barack Obama becomes the next President of the United States on January 20, we will have a science fiction and fantasy fan in the White House.
According to London's Telegraph newspaper, Obama collects Spiderman and Conan the Barbarian comics, and has read all the Harry Potter books. Reportedly he also once greeted Leonard "Mr. Spock" Nimoy the Vulcan with the "Live Long and Prosper" sign, posed in front of a Superman statue in Metropolis, Illinois, and even posted the Superman picture on his Senate website.
In October last year, at a black-tie roast, he jokingly revealed his secret identity, announcing "I was actually born on Krypton, and sent here by my father Jor-El to save the planet earth". Finally, during a campaign rally in May, he tapped his wife Michelle's belt buckle and said, "The (di)lithium crystals! Beam me up, Scotty!"
Perhaps we'll see science fiction and fantasy friendly policies in the years to come? Not sure what they would involve, but it will be good to see a science fiction and fantasy fan in the White House.
