If I wasn't already waiting in anticipation for The Day the Earth Stood Still remake staring Keanu Reeves, the two new TV ads and 7 minute trailer would definitely have sparked my interest. The clips give us the first glimpse of a sleek looking Gort (the robot from the first movie making a welcome return), more of Klaatu's globe shaped ship, some amazing special effect sequences, and a sense of menace not present in the first trailer or the original movie.
The longer trailer also shows an entire interrogation sequence with Keanu as Klaatu, so don't watch this clip if you want to avoid spoilers.
I hope this movie lives up to the hype and snippets we've seen so far. However, there are still doubts, the director and writer have only worked on a few major movies between them: Scott Derrickson directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Hellraiser: Inferno, while screenwriter David Scarpa wrote the screenplay to Robert Redford's The Last Castle. The effects will be an improvement on the original no doubt, but like many big budget hollywood remakes, if the direction and writing fail, there's little that will remain in your memory after the final credits roll.
