Highlander movie remake confirmed PDF Print E-mail

How will they replace Sean Connery in the new Highlander remake? According to Variety, the original 1986 Highlander movie starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery is set to be remade by Summit Entertainment, who hope to kick start a new series of big budget Highlander movies.

"I have always dreamed of reinventing this franchise," said Patrick Wachsberger, Summit's co-chairman and president.

Featuring immortal fighters battling throughout history for a legendary "prize", director Russell Mulchay's Highlander was an excellent piece of fantasy entertainment. Immortals only die by decapitation and can only avoid battle on holy ground.

The sequence set in 1541, where Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) is tutored by an older immortal, Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez (Sean Connery), is particularly memorable. Ramírez appoints himself MacLeod's tutor in the ways of being Immortal, their pursuit of the "Prize", the rules of the "Game", and the time of "The Gathering", when the remaining immortals will come together for one final time. If you've watched the original movie, I doubt you'll forget that "in the end, there can be only one"! You may also remember Lambert and Connery running barefoot along a beach feeling "The quickening" running through their veins.

It seems to be science fiction and fantasy remake mania lately: a new Land of the Lost movie, a Blake’s 7 TV remake, The Day the Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves, where will it end? Everything old is new again.

Does Highlander really need a remake though? They're going to have to produce an impressive movie to top the original. I can't think of any actor able to fill Connery's shoes for a start. In any case, Highlander has already spawned 4 movies and two TV series, none of which was particularly inspiring when compared to the original. Highlander II: The Quickening and Highlander III: The Final Dimension were widely panned.

Is there really any more left to tell? Apparently the answer is "yes". The writers of the recent Marvel Comics box office smash, Iron Man , Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, have been hired to create the new Highlander script and plan to expand upon the original movie's premise.

While I loved the original, I'm not overjoyed by the thought of a remake. Perhaps there should only be one?

Highlander will start production next year.

Highlander Re-make
written by Director Hugo V., June 11, 2008
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
Please do not re-make the original Highlander movie! Re-make a movie that needs re-making because it was a good idea but terrible movie. Stop making re-makes of good films! This is just as bad as re-making Psycho, Halloween, Escape From New York, Planet of The Apes...see a pattern here? Or at least hire someone who knows the movies and can contribute something that the originals needed! Hollywood please listen for once!

I live and breathe Highlander at the moment making my own fan made highlander movies, but this news of the first Highlander movie is somehow interesting but disturbing. People please Highlander 1 should be left alone because it gave birth to the whole Immortals seeking the prize and christopher lambert and sean connery gave the audience something we will always remember throughout history, the bond between them created the HIGHLANDER movie and it was great BUT THEN THE MADE 2 the quickening, OUCH, it just didnt give any answers and went pair shaped then 3 came out and it kind of made more sense. 3 should of been 2. You need to sit back, think hard because the next 2 movies after THE SOURCE has got to shed light on Immortals, where they came from, why are they here, and what is THE PRIZE cos since the first movie we still dont really know and its got to be epic if you want the HIGHLANDER followers to appreciate it and wal out the cinemas with relief and smiles and wow. Highlander remake would be interesting but curiosity killed the cat SO DONT KILL THE HIGHLANDER MYTH. thankyou.

no no no no no re-make !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
written by bowdster, August 14, 2008
The original should not be re-made it was good enough the first time round, they would be better off remake any of the original 4 sequels (the quickening/the sorcerer/end game/the source) as they don't really follow on properly and also the TV series although good enough to be part of the highlander franchise would do better from a remake. they could re-make the second HL film as that's the one that totally wrecked the storyline and the following films had trouble following the slghtly screwed up storyline. LEAVE THE ORIGINAL ALONE NO REMAKE HOWEVER GOOD WILL JUST FURTHER SCREW UP THE FRANCHISE, JUST MAKE A SIXTH FILM GIVE IT A BIG BUDGET AND TRY AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT HAVE GONE ON UNANSWERED FOR SO LONG AND FILL IN THE BLANKS CREATED BY THE LAST TWO FILMS SO THAT ALL 5 HL FILMS TIE UP AND MAKE SENSE.NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO REMAKE IT WOULD BE WRONG !!!!!!!!
