here\'s hoping

I just saw Beowulf at the IMAX in Melbourne and I was blown away, being a massive fan of movies like Milius\'s \"Conan the Barbarian\" and Boorman\'s \"Excalibur\" I really enjoyed the experience. The only thing that bothered me was because I wear glasses, I struggled to keep the ones that the IMAX provided us with (as mentioned by John in the article). Here\'s hoping they come up with some better glasses and I\'ll definitely pay my hard earned for that experience again. What James Cameron said was great too, in that this will be the way forward for sci-fi, fantasy, action etc etc which means 2D films will not die and believe me being a big fan of film makers like Terrence Malick, Jim Jarmusch, Richard Linklater, Wes Anderson etc etc I wouldn\'t want the straight ahead 2D film experience to die out. In saying that bring on Avatar and bring on Tin Tin (and fingers crossed a Peter Jackson 3D The Hobbit). Lastly I will say NOTHING will ever surpass seeing the Empire Strikes Back as a 4 year old but I am looking forward to Cameron, Speilberg, Jackson, Zemeckis and Lucas to push everything forward, I for one will be in line at the ticketing booth waiting with fever pitch anticipation. - Dean

Still not convinced

I still think they have a long way to go Jim. 2009 is fast approaching and I don\'t see 3D theaters opening rapidly. Let\'s see how Beowulf goes. Here in Melbourne, Australia, for example, Beowulf is being released in only one 3D theater. For every other theater to make the switch is not likely to happen overnight.

Can\'t see it happening? EVERY motion picture being put out by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Spielberg at Dreamworks Animation will be 3D from 2009 and on. Period. Cameron has a $200 million 3D budget for Avatar. Theater owners can charge 1/3 to 1/2 more per seat for a 3D movie (PROVEN with recent 3D releases) - a heck of a better deal for them than the money they spent on Digital upgrades showing no return to them.

Oh, 3D movie theaters will abound by the summer of 2009. Mark my words.
